The Teen (11-20)
Gareth was a pretty normal teenager, he still had his passion for music and spent most of his spare time playing with the Harbord Diggers Big Band. Cliff, Gareth's father, was the musical director and his cousins, brother (Roger) and sister were all involved.
Gareth went to Balgowlah Boys High School between 1973-1978 and it was during these years that he started to enjoy some sport - sailing and golf. He was quite a competent sailor and sailed for a small marina at Clontarf in Sydney. Like most boys of that era, Gareth wanted to have long hair. Unfortunately, Gareth's hair only grew out. So between the glasses and the hair cut it was surprising that Gareth managed to attract a girlfriend at all, Thankfully, fashion is fickle and the hair style did not last too long.
