The Child (0-10)
Gareth Llewelyn Price was born at 5.40am on the 31st of December, 1960, to a very exhausted mother, Margaret, and proud father, Cliff. He weighed 7lbs 11.75 ounces and according to his mum "he was a very beautiful baby". Gareth has three siblings - Roger (born 1963), Sharon (born 1965) and David (born 1971). Apologies to David as there is a severe shortage of photos of him (I guess by the time you get to number four you are too busy to take photos anymore).
Margaret says, "he was a good baby, ate well and slept well. He walked at 13 months and was an early talker. He had very blonde hair and gorgeous blue eyes.
He started at the local school in Manly West when he was 5 years old and enjoyed learning immensely. He was always a very serious child, not at all impulsive. He would always think things through before making a decision. He definitely had a cautious streak (and still has). It is something his son has inherited from him.
Unfortunately for Gareth, it was discovered that he needed glasses at a very early age (7), when his grades started to suffer because he could not see the board at school. Luckily, he had a very astute teacher who recognised the problem early and he started to wear (what are now fashionable) black rimmed glasses.
Gareth's father Cliff, introduced him to the pleasures of brass as an infant and so began a life long love of music, bands and brass. He proved to have a natural talent, and started playing the cornet in the local Manly Brass Band at the tender age of 7.
He was never keen on team sport perhaps because he wore glasses."
I wish you a wonderful 50th birthday Gareth Price. All my love, mum.
