Married (21-30)
Gareth's twenties were a time where he established himself. He was studing Mechanical Engineering at the NSW Institute of Technology and about to make a significant commitment in life.
During the next couple of years Gareth met Tina, purchased a home, got married (1984), honeymooned in Noumea and graduated from University. 30 Riverside Cres, in the solubrious suburb of Marrickville, was the first tentative step into the Sydney real estate market.
Gareth and Tina spent the next couple of years renovating and working hard. Gareth went from Alcatel-STC, to Easinet and then to Data General, with each step moving more and more into Computing. While he was very busy with work and renovations, Marrickville was still the scene of many good times and parties. Who could ever forget the wonderful housewarming present of a very old Valiant. The neighbourhood was kept in spare parts for at least a couple of weeks until the car was eventually stripped bare and the council took the carcus away. There were bbqs in the back yard, there were theme parties, there were pyjama parties. but Marrickville was always going to be a stepping stone.
So with cream carpet layed, new ceilings and architraves installed, pink walls painted and the requisite lattice Federation Green and Cream fence, Marrickville was sold five years later in order to upgrade to a much nicer suburb and house on the north shore - 36 Robinson Street, East Lindfield.
This time the renovation was much bigger. The house had good bones but terrible decor. Whoever sold the 70s on Mission Brown deserved to be shot.
Gareth was also true to his word and 1989 saw the arrival of our first baby, Jake.
Happy Birthday Gareth Price.
